We are looking forward to getting to know one another as your child continues on their learning journey with us at Waterloo Primary School. Your child will be learning a vast range of topics in Year 1 from the wonderful British weather to who was Christopher Columbus? Looking at what life is like in Shanghai to practising daily happy mind regulation techniques.

Children in Year 1 will take part in PE twice weekly on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday is outdoor PE and Thursday is indoor PE. Children are to come to school wearing their PE kits on these days. The PE kit consists of; plain white T-shirt, black/navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. For outdoor PE it is advised for your child to bring a navy-coloured jumper or hoodie as the weather gets colder.

Due to health and safety reasons, earring must not be worn on PE days.

Reading books, library books and homework will be sent out on a Friday and must be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure you are signing your child’s reading diary so we can see your child has been reading at home. Your child will be awarded a raffle ticket each week for completed homework and a signed reading diary to have a chance to win a half term treat!

Phonics videos will also be sent home on dojo for your child to engage with, they will love showing off to you their sounds that they have learnt in class!
